“All I did was be a sounding board… is that enough?”

One of the most common reflections coaches bring to supervision is: Am I doing enough?

  • “All I did was listen—was that enough?”
  • “I could have asked a better question—did I deliver the best value?”

These questions come from a deep desire to serve our clients well. We want to know that the conversations we hold are meaningful, that they help our counterparts make real shifts in their work and lives.

But here’s the paradox: the more we worry about “Am I doing enough?” the less present we are. And when we’re not present, we actually diminish our ability to generate value.

Coaching is a dynamic, unfolding conversation. There’s no perfect question, no perfect moment. But there is a way to build confidence in the value you bring—through supervision.

Supervision helps you:

  • Recognise and reframe your inner doubts.
  • Reflect on your coaching practice in a structured, supportive space.
  • Develop a deeper ability to trust yourself, your presence, and your client’s process.

The more you engage in supervision, the quicker you can catch those thoughts of doubt, reset, and return fully to your client. And that’s where the real value lies.

If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, let’s explore them together in supervision.
